It’s the second Two Gomers Special: Two Gomers Get Resolute! The guys are visited by three ghosts: Past, Present, and Future…well, not really, but they talk about those things in relation to their running journey.
Plus, we FINALLY discuss the controversial “Plodders” article from the New York Times…and Steven gets a little heated about it. You don’t want to miss that.

Another great episode guys! I loved the email from your listener, and your reflections on it. I agreed with his appreciation of your faith, even though he doesn’t share it. I’m Jewish, and I still love all your Christmas talk, not to mention the faith that underpins your whole Gomer life. I’m running my first half-marathon in (gulp) two weeks, but I’ve enjoyed this training process so much that I joined the New York Road Runners Club today! In the application it asked what the name of my “team” is … I don’t have one, but I didn’t want to leave it blank. After a moment’s thought, I decided on my affiliation and wrote in “Gomer Nation.” Thanks Gomers! I’ll keep listening, and I look forward to seeing the Culver’s video. That Cinnamon challenge was hilarious.
I look forward to your podcast each week and this special was no disappointment. You both are really inspiring to me and have given me hope that I can reach my goal of becoming physically fit. I wish you both the best in 2010 and will be waiting to hear more about your adventures. Happy New Year!!
I’ve been a faithful listener since catching up with you last year after I started running at the end of March. I’m a 46-year-old mom of four and hadn’t run at all since having my first child 16 years ago. Your journey to the half last year definitely inspired me. Despite sustaining a hip injury last summer that laid me up for a couple of months I’m now a committed runner. I’ve run 21k a few times in training but haven’t yet been able to get to an organized race, living as I do in a fairly rural part of BC, Canada. I’m hoping to run a Half in May. A full marathon will hopefully be in the cards for me in early 2011.
My youngest kid is six. Last summer, inspired by her mom’s running, she decided to set the goal of running a “Kid’s Marathon,” 42.2k run cumulatively over a six-week period. She was thrilled to pull it off, with time to spare, all 42 pounds of her. I got her a medal, of which she is justifiably proud.
Over the past few months she has also become a faithful Two Gomers listener. I used to listen to you guys while running, but for the past few months, she’s insisted I save the podcasts to listen to with her, when we are traveling to her music or martial arts classes. It was she who asked me to write today, because she was dismayed, well-nigh appalled, by your mention of the research which pegs January 22nd as the worst, most depressing day of the year. See, that’s Fiona’s birthday. She took your sharing of that information rather personally. She’s been looking forward to being 7 for a long time, and she felt affronted that you would mention her birthday in such a negative light, especially because she has been such a loyal follower of your podcasts.
But she’s rising above the insult, and would like to join me in wishing Steven a happy birthday. And she wants you to know that she’s going to have a thoroughly happy birthday of her own on January 22nd, no matter what the research says!
